ἀπό
away from {+gen}, from. -

from {+gen}, alongside of {+acc}, beside, in the presence of {+dat}. -

about (+gen), around (+acc), concerning.

Notice that the direction of movement causes the endings of the words to change, for example:
- εἰς τὸν οἶκον.
- ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου.
This will become important in the future, for now, simply observe that this change occurs.
Practice reading these sentences out loud. Try replacing the names below with your own name, or a friend.
- Πέτρος περιπατεῖ πρὸς τὸν οἶκον.
- Πέτρος περιπατεῖ εἰς τὸν οἶκον.
- Πέτρος περιπατεῖ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου.
- Πέτρος περιπατεῖ ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου.
- Ἅννα περιπατεῖ πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν.
- Ἅννα περιπατεῖ περὶ τὴν θάλασσαν.
- Παῦλος καὶ Μαρία περιπατοῦσιν πρὸς τὸν οἶκον.
- Παῦλος καὶ Μαρία περιπατοῦσιν ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου.
- Παῦλος καὶ Μαρία περιπατοῦσιν πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν.
